IR Hub - Control Hidden AV Equipment - 12V Power Supply

Overview

This IR hub allows information gathered from IR receivers to be relayed to IR emitters to control and operate AV equipment (whether they are in an AV cupboard or another room). Up to 2 IR receivers and 4 IR emitters can be used with this hub to control up to 4 sources such as an amp, Blu-Ray player, DVD player, sky box, etc.

Installation

Normally the IR hub would be located near to your AV equipment. There are two 3.5mm mono emitter sockets (as seen on the diagram above) to which two dual IR emitters can be connected, please search through our shop to find this product. Up to two IR receivers can be used with this hub by using a 3.5mm stereo splitter adapter in the IR receiver socket. When two IR receivers are being used we recommend only extending the IR receiver cables up to 15 metres each. When only one IR receiver is being used, we recommend not exceeding 30 metres for the total cable length. IR receivers are available in our shop too, they come in pre-set lengths of 3 metres. To extend an IR receiver cable, a '3.5mm extension cable' should be used, alternatively you can make your own cable to a set length by using, CAT5 cable and 3.5mm stereo plug and socket connectors.

IR emitters should be positioned in front of, above, below or fixed on to the IR receiver on your source device and any signals fead to the emitter will be blasted out to enable control of your equipment.

IR receivers should be positioned in the room where you would like to control your equipment from. They will then pick up any IR commands sent from your remote control and relay them back to the hub.

Troubleshooting when installing

Sometimes IR receivers struggle receiving/distinguishing commands due to infrared interference usually caused by TVs, fireplaces or direct sunlight. If the interference is extremely high in the area where the IR receiver is placed the blue IR confirmation LED may always be on. To reduce the interference to a manageable level, masking tape or paper over the IR receiver can help. Newer TVs may have an 'energy saving function' which when in use the TV can emit a lot of IR interference, turning this function off can help dramatically.
