What does it do and how do I use it?

The component CAT5 transmitter sits next to your component source, such as a DVD player and is connected to the source by a standard component cable. The receiver should be plugged into an output device such as a TV, using a component cable. The output device can be located up to 120 metres away. The CAT5 cable can then be run in between the transmitter and receiver up to 120 metres length.

Why buy?

Our component CAT5 extender allows installers to take advantage of CAT5 (or higher) ethernet cable for connecting component devices over long distances. CAT5 cable is most commonly used for computer networking, it is readily available and is very cheap. A CAT5 extender device such as this is a much more cost effective way to connect devices over long distances without loss of signal quality, (standard component cables could only be run up to 20 metres, would require a lot of shielding and would be very expensive). CAT5 cable is relatively thin and flexible so it is easily installed, for example through walls. It can be self terminated which allows for tailored lengths to meet the exact requirements of any home or commercial installation.

Specification

Distance – Actual usable distance between the transmitter and receiver will vary on a number of factors including strength of signal, quality of terminations and local sources of interference. The 120 metre distance is based on use of CAT5 cable, and should be considered the absolute minimum. Usable distances are likely to be much greater and will increase with use of CAT5e, CAT6 or higher rated cable.

Supports - 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p resolutions. The transmitter and receiver will work at 1080P up to approximately 50 metres. Strength of signal and local sources of interference will affect the distance 1080P can still be displayed at.

Build Quality – The transmitter and receiver are well built and are compact.
