2 XLR Male to Female Balanced Audio CAT5 Extender

Perfect for long distance signal transmission, that would be otherwise not possible.

Run up to 300 metres (1000 feet) with minimal signal loss!

What does the package include? 1 x 2 XLR Female Box 1 x 2 XLR Male Box

Either XLR CAT5 device can be used as the transmitter or receiver. If required, we do sell them separately, for example you may require a 'male to male' configuration instead of 'male to female'. The units are completely passive which means no power source is required.

What does it do and how do I use it?

One of the XLR CAT5 devices sits next to your audio source and is connected by a standard audio cable. The other XLR CAT5 device can be located up to 300 metres away and should be plugged into your output device using a standard audio cable. CAT5 cable can then be run in between both the boxes, up to 300 metres in length.

Why buy?

Our XLR CAT5 extender allows installers to take advantage of CAT5 (or higher) ethernet cable for connecting audio devices over long distances. CAT5 cable is most commonly used for computer networking, it is readily available and is very cheap. A CAT5 extender device such as this is a much more cost effective way to connect devices over long distances without loss of signal quality, (standard audio cables could only be run up to 20 metres, would require a lot of shielding and would be very expensive). CAT5 cable is relatively thin and flexible so it is easily installed, for example through walls. It can be self terminated which allows for tailored lengths to meet the exact requirements of any installation.

Specification

Distance – Actual usable distance between the XLR CAT5 devices will vary on a number of factors including strength of signal, quality of terminations and local sources of interference. The 300 metre distance is based on use of CAT5 cable, and should be considered the absolute minimum. Usable distances are likely to be much greater and will increase with use of CAT5e, CAT6 or higher rated cable.

Build Quality – The units are well built and are compact. They have a durable metal chassis.

Nickel Plated Connectors – to increase signal quality.

Cables – In order to produce the best quality over long distances, we would recommend use of high quality cables, running to and from the XLR CAT5 devices. Please view our shop to find suitable cables. If you need guidance, please email us.
